Going Slow and Going Bold

The arduous challenge of phenomenalizing a starter home in a thriftville suburb of Boise is painstakingly snailish, at best. We've foregone the real hardwood floors and granite counter tops for their slightly more affordable cousins: laminate and Formica and have ultimately decided to "go big or go home" when it comes to what was, initially, a weekend project. Added to the to-do list:

New Counter Tops (Formica)
Paint
Tile
New Sink
New Faucet
New Baseboard
Area Rug

Here's our success so far:

ripped out baseboards
ripped out carpet
ripped out subfloor
ripped out cabinets
pulled thousands of staples from floor
ordered Formica
purchased tile
purchased paint
prepped for painting
laid new flooring in kitchen and pantry
re-installed cabinets
installed new chipboard counter tops (to precede Formica)
installed new sink & faucet
re-installed kitchen appliances

We still have so much work ahead of us, but the end result will be STUNNING!

Here's what we've chosen for our counter tops:
Smoked Quartzstone

(you can't see it in this picture, but there are flecks of brown...)

And a color for our walls that incorporates the brown in our floors with the coolness of our counter tops:
I have to admit that this color is intimidatingly DARK for our walls and after waffling about my decision for an hour last night, I decided that since we were going bold with some of our choices, why not do the same for our walls? *gulp*
And, finally, Clarke and I are debating the virtues of area rugs in a price vs. pretty argument that will undoubtedly last until I head to Lowe's to make the final decision. Will it be indulgence or clearance???
